<p>
    After the successful first Junior Research Meeting for Applied Linguistics in Groningen in 2007, GAL (Gesellschaft f&#252;r Angewandte Linguistik, Germany), An&#233;la (AssociationN&#233;erlandaise de Linguistique Appliqu&#233;e), and Vals-Asla (Swiss Association for Applied Linguistics) are pleased to invite budding researchers, graduate students, and PhDstudents to the "Junior Research Meeting for Applied Linguistics&rdquo;. At this meeting the opportunity will be given to participants to present their work to colleagues, both juniorand senior, in an informal and supportive setting. It will also offer the possibility to comein contact with other researchers in your field.

    Meetings of this kind have already been very successfully organized by An&#233;la, the Dutch affiliate of AILA, for over ten years. The aims of such junior research meetings are toprovide junior researchers with the opportunity to present their studies to the wideracademic community and to receive valuable feedback at the early stages of theirresearch. In addition, this meeting wants to promote the international exchange of ideas and to facilitate networking between European affiliates of AILA. The meeting istherefore organized in close cooperation with the Dutch and Swiss&#160; affiliates of AILA,An&#233;la and Vals-Asla.

<p>
    <br />
    We invite junior researchers to submit abstracts for:
</p>
<ul>
    <li>presentations of on-going or completed research (20 mins + 10 mins discussion)<br />
        OR
    </li>
    <li>presentations of raw data leading to discussion (60 mins)<br />
        AND/OR
    </li>
    <li>poster presentations.
    </li>
</ul>
<p>
    Your research should address one or more questions from the following fields of applied linguistics:- Language development
</p>
<ul>
    <li>Language in the community
    </li>
    <li>Language in education
    </li>
    <li>Language in professional settings
    </li>
    <li>Language counseling, including speech therapy
    </li>
    <li>Language of media
    </li>
</ul>
<p>
    Possible topics range from first and second language acquisition; literacy development; language disorders; communication in institutions; language variation and linguisticdiscrimination, to multilingualism and intercultural communication. Topics from the fieldof language conflict; language policy and language planning; language and communication in politics, discourse and multimodality are also welcome. The studies can be based on written, audiovisual and virtual data.
